A mother’s journey to staying fit and healthy Part 4
Whew! It’s Part 4 already! How time flies so fast. (Read Part1, Part2 and Part3 if you missed it)
So what happened this week? Me and other bloggers met Angela Lupangco and Art Cortez (Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Season 1 finalists) at Crossfit Manila in Taguig. I thought I need a multivitamin capsules for women for this event.
When I went home, and my husband saw me how I was walking, he teased me by singing “kung tayo’y matanda na, sana’y di tayo magbago“ (when we get old, I hope we will never change). Why did he teased me this? Let me tell you what happened at Crossfit Manila.
First of all, What is CrossFit? It is a core strength and conditioning program. It includes a variety of exercises done repeatedly for a short period of time.
Our handsome coach, told us to do the following for 10 minutes:
7 Wall Balls (throw a 3kg ball on the wall then catch it by squating)
7 Push-ups
7 Box Jump
7 Burpees (check out C-Lium website on how to do it)
At the span of 10 minutes time, I got 3 rounds (coach said maximum should be 4 rounds, not bad!). After doing this exercise, I felt that my knees were shaking, my arms were in so much pain and I felt a little bit dizzy. This exercise is so intense and advance for me and I felt that my muscles were stretched.
After taking a shower and changed my clothes, we headed at Kuya’s at the Fort, where we ate our Lunch.
There we met Ms. Nadine Tengco, resident nutritionist and chef for The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition .
She brought to us a revelation that contrary to belief, dieting makes us fatter. She said that we should keep the blood sugar level (40mg/dl) to make weight loss effective.
Ms. Nadine taught us these essential rules on weight loss:
Frequency – Eat every 3 to 4 hours to maintain blood sugar constant. .
Quality – The food that you eat should be:
- Nutrient dense – It should have more nutrients and less calories.
- Volume metric – It should have more amounts of water and fiber to help you avoid hunger pangs.
- Whole foods – It should be unprocessed. Fresh, raw, or home-cooked meals should be your priority so forget about fast foods, processed meats, and canned goods.
- Foods that slow down digestion – Keeping the blood sugar constant means slowing down the digestion of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are digested an hour after a meal, protein in 2 hours, and fat in 5-6 hours. Fiber slows down digestion so it is essential to have fiber in every meal.
Quantity – You can have three 350 calories meals and 100-200 calories snacks a day.
I learned a lot from Ms. Nadine, I even want to keep her haha. She is like your conscience who will remind you on what and what not to eat every time.
I realized a lot from this journey, I learned that being skinny doesn’t mean you’re healthy. That being fit will be harder as you grow older so as much as possible do it NOW!
On the next update, we will see the results of this journey. Will I lose at least 1 pound? Will my cholesterol become lower? I am excited to know, Stay Tuned!
