Teaching My Son to do Household Chores this Summer
My son’s last day at school is on March 28. I have a lot of activities in mind that I am planning to do with him to make his summer worthwhile and also to ready him for the next school year.
Part of the things I want to teach him are doing household chores like washing the dishes, folding clothes, doing the laundry and cooking (even if it’s just rice and egg).
If you think I’m making it hard for Ren, well I think he will thank me after if he learns these things. My goal is for him to be ready and be a survivor.
I grew up in a poor family and even though we were not well-off, my mom did not allow us to touch the dishes, cook or do the laundry. I learned these stuff from my aunt at the province and not from my mom. I understand that she just want to make our lives comfortable and she will do everything for us, but to be honest, I struggled adjusting when I got married.
I know how to do household chores but as much as possible I prefer passing it to someone else. Like in doing the laundry I choose to bring our clothes to the laundry shop or hire a labandera to do it for me and I prefer buying cooked food rather than cooking it myself. It’s the same thing with my brother and sister. We are too lazy to do household chores because we are not used to doing it.
With my son, I don’t want him to be like me. Being a boy is also not an exception, I have a boy cousin who is a good cook and very independent. Ren needs to learn these stuff so that he will not depend on other people to do it for him.
I am looking forward for a busy summer for me and Ren 🙂
