Xitou Nature Park (Monster Village) in Taichung
When I saw this area in one of the post in Tiktok, I told myself to include this place to visit in our itinerary. We’ve been to Japan last year and as much as we want to go back there again, we don’t have enough budget saved to go back (although we already have a Multiple Entry visa).
Xitou Nature Park (Monster Village) in Taichung looks like a place in Japan based on photos and videos, so we decided to check it out.
Unfortunately, there are only a few articles and vlogs that teach you on how to commute to the area. When I asked around how much is a private car going there I was quoted NT$5500. It was a huge amount for only 2 passengers. So I just trusted the Google Maps to help bring us to the place.
HOW TO GO THERE FROM TAIPEI?
I will share how we DIY’d or how we commute going to Xitou Nature Park (Monster Village) in Taichung. First we rode a HSR or high speed rail train from Taipei to Taichung. You may purchase your ticket at Taipei HSR booth for NT$700 each person or you can buy a ticket from Klook.
I was lucky I was able to score a buy 1 take 1 ticket from Taipei to Taichung for only P1,058. Make sure to exchange your Klook voucher to a train ticket at the station and reserve a seat at least a day before.
When you arrive at Taichung HSR station, look for the bus terminal at the ground. You need to buy tickets before falling in line (they are located at the exit area). The price was NT$110 per person. After that, fall in line at Bus 6883. Then pray that you will not be joined by a bunch of old folks who are going to hike there.
Why? because they have a free pass at the bus and they are the priority. We waited for 3 buses to pass before we were able to ride because there were a lot of them when we went there.
The way to the place is a zigzag road. If you have motion sickness, better to take a medicine before going there.
We stayed for a few hours at the place, it was quiet, there were only a few tourists, the place was serene and there were a lot of stores for foods and souvenirs. There’s a Family Mart if you want to go to the bathroom, withdraw some money or just buy some water.
If only I was not afraid that we will not be able to catch a bus going back to Taichung then we would have stayed here longer. There’s a spatter of rain also when we were there so if ever bring an umbrella, a cap or a jacket with you.
After going here, we also visited the Miyahara Ice Cream Cafe that looks like a Harry Potter inspired place and Chun Sui Tang where the original peal milk tea came from (I will blog abut these places next)
To go back to Taipei, you can ride either HSR train again or their local train (which we prefer because it cost half the price of HSR).
