Enjoy and Just Finish the Race!
Last Sunday, Ren and I went to Alabang to meet with my mom. Our usual waiting area was at National Bookstore at Festival Supermall. While waiting for her, a staff from NBS asked us if my son can join their contest around 2PM. I said no we can’t because we planned to go to the mass at that time.
After having our lunch with my mom, Ren and I went to The Feast and I was surprised that the mass was around 2:30PM. The National Bookstore is near there, so I decided to go there first and let Ren join the game.
There were already a lot of kids at the area when we arrived.
The crew gave each kids a Sluban Blocks kit that they needed to build. The fastest builder will have a chance to bring home a toy. They assured us though that the one they will use is for them to bring home already, so I just told Ren to just enjoy the game, relax and have fun. But, of course I told him that the fastest builder will win a new box of Sluban toy.
I felt the tense of the moms of other kids. Okay, to be honest I felt it too. Competition kaya ‘ito!
But I thought, Ren sitting down quietly, listening to the instructions and patiently waiting for the contest to start is already a thing that I should be thankful for. I just let him do his best.
The host did not announce that there will be two winners (one for each table). So when a boy raised his hand that he’s done already I thought that the contest was over. I was surprised that when Ren said “I’m done!” the organizer also congratulated him.
If you know me, I am not after Ren winning first nor getting the prize. I am the kind of mom who will support her son no matter what. What’s important for me is him finishing the race by following the instructions and doing his best.
Thank you National Bookstore and Sluban Blocks for this opportunity.
If you like to join the summer activities of National Bookstore, this is the schedule.
