My son conquered his fear at Nickelodeon’s Fright Fest
My son has a fear in closed and noisy places because his sensory is quite sensitive. His Occupational Therapist advised us to let him face his fear and just hope that he can overcome it slowly.
When I was invited to attend the Nickelodeon’s Fright Fest Halloween event at SMX last October 31, I did not hesitate to say Yes! We had been to many events held at SMX and this place have brought fear to my son but still I decided to bring him to the event to see if this time he can overcome those fears.
At first, he was overwhelmed by the huge crowd. When the door was slightly opened, he saw how dark it was inside, he held me tight and he tried to pull me to get out the place, but I resisted. I tried to hold on for a while and I gave him some candies to sooth and calm him down. Finally, when he saw a boy wearing a Spiderman costume, he lined up with him and went inside….. yay I was surprised!.
There were lots of sponsors booth inside. I thought that it will be a smooth flow of trick or treating, but unfortunately because of the huge number of kids and adult who were lining up to get some treats it took us a while to get some items from those booths.
My son doesn’t like to wait so we have only visited 3-4 booths (I think). What’s nice with the event was that they have lots of photo booth areas and there were various play areas that kids can enjoy too.
yey he have met Iron Man 🙂 |
and here he doesn’t care that Superman is beside him because he is munching on his Selecta IceCream 🙂 |
I don’t have any good shots of the booths inside because I am always looking out for my son (well, it was just the two of us and I am afraid to lose him in the crowd).
And, it was not called a Nickelodeon event if the characters like Spongebob, Dora and Diego will not show up. Unfortunately we didn’t saw them, because we went out early. You can check out some photos at Orange Magazine’s FB Page for pictures at the event (click HERE)
We might have gotten only a few treats BUT what matters most to me is that my son have overcomed his fear of dark areas and noisy places. We went home with lots of memories that I excitedly told to my husband.
