3 Lessons that the 3 Idiots Movie have taught me
Based on it’s title, I was expecting that the 3 Idiots is like watching an old movie of Tito, Vic and Joey – which was hilarious and full of comic antics. I was surprised that this movie showed us some great lessons.
This movie made Noel and I cry and laugh at the same time (just like an idiot hahaha). It was a long Bollywood movie that lasted for 3 hours but I can say that we enjoyed every moment that we spent watching it.
Here are 3 lessons I got from the movie:
- IN LIFE: Whatever the problem in life is… just say to yourself “Aal Izz Well’ (all is well!!!), that is what the main character Rancho (portrayed by Aamir Khan) says to himself whenever he is in trouble and have a huge problem. I tried to say it when I have encountered some problems and I tell you… it works. Saying it will also increase your faith that everything will be alright.
- IN TEACHING: Kids should be encouraged to think out of the box. The movie does not only represent the school regulations of India, it sad to say but it is also happening here in the Philippines and I know in some other countries too. Students are pressured to memorize the school lessons without really understanding what it is all about. Books will definitely help the students, but they should also be encouraged to do the things they’ve learned based on their own understanding.
- AS A PARENT: We all have dreams for our children, but we should learn to let go and let them decide and choose what they want to do when they are ready to decide for themselves. We should do our best to teach them to be ready when that time comes. In the movie, Indian parents dictate what is the course that their kids will take as early as they are born (and the children should follow it to pay respect to their parents).
3 Idiots is a must watch movie to all educators and parents. I hope the local producers can do something intellectual like this one too.

This is a pretty old movie but one that’s considered a classic. We’ve watched it three times for our movie review in Chinese class and I agree that it’s a must-watch movie for everyone.

I used to watch Hindi movies when I was working in Dubai and Riyadh. Some of them were melodrama, but with dancing of course. I’ll try to download this movie. Thanks

I love the movie too. I was deeply touched by a student who committed a suicide for he was belittled and underestimated by his professor. I even sympathized with his parents for the sad fate of their son.
