For wounds and scratches, Say No To Staphy, Yes to Fucidin Ointment

When I was a young girl, you’ll never see me watching TV or playing indoors unless it’s rainy. I love going out and playing classic outdoor games like piko, luksong tinik, mataya-taya or taguan.

Whenever I had my yearly vacation in our province, you’ll see me playing at the river with the carabaos and ducks or climbing fruit bearing trees. I can say that I had a memorable childhood. But yes, because I was so active I had a lot of wounds and scratches. That’s one of the reasons why you can’t see me wearing mini shorts, the marks are still there and I am so conscious about it.

I remember my grandparents will ask me to wash my wounds with boiled guava leaves and then they’ll put this white tablet called penicillin that they crushed into pieces. I just followed what they asked me to do, but now I learned that was wrong. I’m glad I survived my childhood hahaha.

As a mother now, I want my son to experience the fun of playing outdoors and meeting new friends. I even encourage him to play with other kids before and after school. But, just like any other moms out there I am also protective of him getting into accidents, wounds or scratches from playing.

But, I cannot compromise the fun of doing outdoor play with my fear of him getting wounds. It’s a good thing that Fucidin® Ointment by Leo Pharma™ is finally available here in the Philippines.

ABOUT Staphylococcus (also known as STAPHY)

Staphylococcus is a group of bacteria that can cause a number of diseases as a result of infection of various tissues of the body. Staph infections may cause disease due to direct infection or due to the production of toxins by the bacteria. Boils, impetigo, cellulitis, and toxic shock syndrome are all examples of diseases that can be caused by Staphylococcus.

Signs of infection include redness, increasing pain, pus secretion, warmth or swelling around the area.If your child has staph infections, he may also complain of a sore, a spider bite, an insect bite, or an infected pimple. It may have started out small and itchy, but then progressed to something red and sore.

STEPS TO PROPER WOUND CARE

1. STOP the bleeding – apply a steady but gentle pressure for 15 minutes with a sterile bandage to stop further bleeding and elevate the wounded area, be it his arm, hand, knee, or leg, if necessary.

2. CLEANSE the wound – Wash the wound and the area that surrounds it with soap and lukewarm water for 15 seconds to prevent further contamination.

3. SECURE against infection -apply a thin, even layer of antibiotic cream or ointment on the surface of the wound to keep it moist. The ointment will also keep the bandage from sticking into the wound. Look for an antibiotic ointment or cream that has fusidic acid, that’s known to target Staphy. Try Fucidin.

4. COVER bigger wounds with bandage – If your child only got a minor cut, scrape, or scratch, it’s okay to leave it uncovered. For small cuts, you may use adhesive strips like Band-aid. However, if it’s worse or bigger than that, protect the wound from dirt and further irritation by applying a sterile bandage to help keep it clean.

With that, these first aid essentials should be in your emergency kit always.

As for me, I only want the best for my son and based on research the best antibiotic ointment that can protect his wound with excellent skin penetration is FUCIDIN.

It is a powerful topical antibacterial that combats Staphy effectively yet is gentle and safe enough to apply directly on your child’s sensitive skin and wound.  It has no cross-resistance and low reports of allergic reactions.

You can apply it two to three times daily to hasten the healing process if the wound is not covered, but one application is usually enough when the wound has a protective dressing.

Mommies, don’t use penicillin anymore. This antibiotic is made for oral intake and not to be put directly to the wounds. It will not be that effective and it may do more harm than good.

Use an ointment specifically for wounds, and I highly recommend Fucidin. It should always be in your first aid kits.
