3 Things You Could Do to Help your Kid/s Find their Gift
One of the things I wish I was able to do when I was young was to find where I am good at and do something to nurture it. I have a working mom (not by choice but by our circumstances) so I don’t blame her if she was not able to help me find it. I know I have good penmanship, if I will practice more I know I might be able to earn from it just like my friend Mye de Leon who is now a popular lettering artist, author, and educator in Singapore.
You know the difference of today’s generation, people can actually earn from their talent as simple as may sound like making soap, doing calligraphy, drawing, to acting, singing, and dancing. Kids now have more choices to pursue than being a banker, a doctor or a lawyer.
As an intentional mom, one of my purpose in life is for my son to be a better person than me and to enjoy whatever he would want to do as a job in the future.
My husband would agree with me on this I know because he has been robbed for pursuing what he really wanted to do too. Don’t get me wrong, my parents-in-law are good people and I know they just want the best for their son that’s why they asked him to be an engineer even if he doesn’t want to. During that time, Engineers put so much on the table and I’m sure his parents just wish a good life for him. BUT, he wanted to be an artist as early as age 5. Let’s be honest, being an artist on the old days do not earn much which is why my parents-in-law tried to change his mind. The problem was because my husband is not into the idea of him being an engineer he did not do good at school. He is a smart man but failed most of his subjects. He did not finish college because of that. What he did was to just continue what he loves to do and now he’s earning from designing and he is happy with his work.
Remember
I know we as parents wants the best for our kids, but let them decide what they want for themselves when they grow up. What we could do now is to just help them see their inner talent and help them to nurture it.
Here are 3 things we could do to help them find their gift
- Spend some time with them and observe them
to see where they are best at. If you could write a journal of the things your child loves to do and doing great on it then that would be nice so that you could track his/her progress. - Check his/her strengths. For example, if your kid has a good singing voice, you might want to find where is that voice perfectly fit. Is it reggae, pop, rock…
- Look for prominent mentors to help your kid be the best that she/he can be.
For number 3, since Summer is near, you might want to ask your child and let him/her experience a talent camp that he wants to join.
My son tried piano lessons before and he’s doing fine with it. Compared to other musical instruments (lyre and flute) that he tried before, he enjoyed piano more.
With the coming Promil iShine7 Talent Camp, he asked me if he could do dancing. He’s an hyper boy, honestly not that good in dancing, but since he likes to experience it, we will support him.
It’s a good thing that well-known dance instructors by the stars – the GForce, is included in the Promil iShine7 Talent Camp and it’s so nice that there is one camp near our location here in Alabang.
Yes guys, I will enroll him and I hope you could join us too.
Visit my previous post to check the other locations, fees and schedule too.
