Yakult as a feminine wash?
I have visited my gynecologist in Manila Doctors Hospital yesterday. It’s been almost 3 years since I last went to the gynecologist for check-up. I decided to visit her again because being a fresh 30 years old, I need to make sure that I am healthy from top to bottom, inside and outside.
As usual, the gynecologist first asked a few questions like “when did you had your first menstruation? when was your last period, is your monthly period regular, do you feel any pain or itchiness down there and if you have a discharge?”
I told her that I went there to have a pap smear since I wanted to make sure if my cervix is healthy. For those who never tried pap smear before and are curious how is it done, here is my personal experience to give you an idea about it.
Before going for a pap test, you must check your last menstruation, it should be done 7-10 days after your menstruation and that 3 days prior to your scheduled pap test, you must avoid contact with your partner. When you are ready, the doctor will ask you to remove your undies and will ask you to lie down in an examination bed with your knees wide open. The process is uncomfortable since the doctor will insert an instrument called a speculum into your vagina. This metal instrument will help the doctor see your cervix, after that, she will use a cotton swab or special stick to get few cell samples from your cervix. The cells will then placed on a slide glass that will be forwarded to the laboratory for examination.
The glass slide with the cells specimen expires within 24hours so make sure that it will reach the laboratory room before it expired or else you will repeat the whole procedure all over again. The pap test results will take 1-2 weeks before it becomes available.
Yes getting pap smear is uncomfortable even for a mother that had a normal delivery like me. But I know I need this test for me to know if I have healthy cells in my cervix or if not (knock on wood) since it was detected early, I still have time to treat it.
After the test, my doctor told me that I have few discharge (surprised!) which is why she gave me an anti-fungal oral tablet and she advised me to drink lots of Yakult and Yoghurt. I thought that she was only kidding me, but she said that Yakult has live lactobacillus (good bacteria) that will help get rid of any bad bacteria in my stomach and down there. She even said that some women in other countries are already using Yakult as feminine wash, but she didn’t advised to do the same to her patients since it is not yet proven safe and effective.
Yakult as a feminine wash is the weirdest thing I have ever heard.
After stepping out the clinic, I treated myself for a nice blend coffee and went shopping. I felt that I need it after the said procedure!
How about you did you experience having a pap smear? did you feel the same uncomfortable feeling like me?
what ever happens in life we should always remember to live life to the fullest

Pap test always makes me feel uncomfortable and nervous even though yearly I had it done, that’s also the reason why I never changed my OB-Gyne. Last year I also availed the Anti-Cervical Cancer Vaccine. It was supposed to be 7,500 per shot but because there was a promo from Gardasil I was able to avail it for 5,500 per shot. 5 patients in a group are needed to avail their promo =)
Levy says
hi Gene, wait ko lang result ng pap test pag okay naman baka ischedule ko na lang cervical cancer vaccine (ipon muna) if may problem papa inject ako asap hehe 🙂
Levy says
hi nuts, a new study says that if you have 3 consecutive negative pap smear pwede na daw kahit every 2 years balik sa gyne. Okay di ba?
Gene says
this is something new I learned today. the only pap smear I had was after i gave birth to Una. I don’t know why but my OB didn’t use speculum on me. Maybe because I was still fresh from giving birth? I know I should have done it every year but I was too lazy. I will have to this year, it’s been two years and better safe than sorry.
Did you get the Cervical Cancer Vaccine? It was offered to me by my OB, pero walang budget that time. Medyo mahal kasi siya.
