Progressive School’s Challenging Grading System

I admit I am not good in recitation, reporting or anything related to speaking ever since I was studying until now. The thesis defense was one of the hardest part of my College life. The only reason I received good grades (sometimes passing grades) is because I do better in written exams.

I can talk well to friends or to the people I know, but I find it hard to express myself with people I barely know or meet. My words usually mixed up, what’s on my mind differs with what I want to say. I think I need to see a speech therapist soon hahaha.

I’m telling you this because when I received the grading components of every subject in Ren’s progressive school I was surprised to see that it was different from last year. The percentage for class participation is now equal or greater than quarterly exams.

One example is this:

Ren is good in written exams because he is a visual learner but I’m afraid that he is not that motivated to do recitations. Recitations includes the auditory sense which is still a HUGE challenge for my son.

I understand why the school made it that way because they are now in Grade 2 and they are encouraged to speak more and challenge their critical thinking as well.

Of course we will accept whatever the results in his first grading grades wholeheartedly because this time I’m not with him inside the classroom. He will get grades based on his own performance and not with the guide or help from me.
