I joined the Masflex Kitchen Camp 2016
Before my husband and I got married 12 years ago, I told him that I am not good in domestic things like cooking, washing clothes etc. I asked him if he will eat dried fish, sardines or instant noodles and he said yes. This is a big deal to me because he grew up in a family who can provide whatever he wants. His parents are both good cooks, so having me in his life who knows nothing in the kitchen is really a concern for me. I don’t want to be blamed in the end for not telling him this.
We were fine when it’s just the 2 of us. We survived because there are a lot of restaurants and fast food chains to go to after work. But having a child is a different story. I know I needed to learn how to cook after Ren was born.
I started with the common Filipino dishes like Tinola, Sinigang and Pinakbet. I hired a helper/cook when I was still working and Ren was a baby, but when I fired her I know I needed to learn to do the things she does.
Now I know how to cook some dishes, but I know my family (well and I too) are tired of having the same stuff over and over again. That’s why I said yes to the Masflex Kitchen Camp Event.
Masflex Kitchen Camp
It was held at Maya Kitchen in Makati. I, together with the other 9 invited bloggers were welcomed by Masflex ambassadress and a well-known cook and adobo queen, Ms. Nancy Reyes-Lumen.
We were asked to introduce ourselves first before we start the cooking booth camp. I told them what I just posted above.
The 9 of us got to have our own table to use to make the 3 dishes we’re going to cook. They said that we could bring home all the items we’re gonna use (I wish the stove was included haha).
The 3 Dishes We Cooked:
Crispy Chicken Adobo Flakes
I consider this as the easiest dish we cooked. It’s also the yummiest dish I made through this entire booth camp that I almost finish all the chicken flakes after.
Here are the ingredients:
Accdg to Ms. Nancy, the technique in shredding the chicken breast is to use a fork and press it. Then pull the meat, the thinner it is, the crispier it will become.
We used the Masflex Stainless Steel Saucepan in cooking this.
This was my finished product.
Blubimbap with Adobo Flakes
This was a tricky dish. We were taught to poach an egg and cook a rice dyed with butterfly-pea flower.
Here are the ingredients (carrots and zucchini not in the picture)
Here’s the finish product that we put in the stainless steel lunchbox with handle and plastic spoon from Masflex.
Rainbow Pancake Crepe
I was so tired during this time. Can you blame me? I’m not used to be in the kitchen for so many hours and cooking 2 or more dishes.
Here are the ingredients:
We actually used a premade pancake mix already which was put inside the Masflex squeeze dispenser bottle. We just added some food coloring per bottle that we can use to make an art.
I decided not to do the icing. My first set was ruined because I tried to make a heart with them. I’m out of time so I decided to make this one instead.
It’s the simplest among the group (nakakahiya hahaha). It looks like a candy cane isn’t it?
After the event, we did a mannequin challenge, then we got our certificates.
I went home with 4 bags of heavy stuff from Masflex, Fly Ace and Maya (I’m not complaining though).
I can’t wait to visit the office of Ramesh Trading to buy more kitchen stuff that I need for my newly renovated kitchen. I hope that having new kitchen utensils will motivate me to cook more for my family.
Wish me luck 🙂

It’s always advantageous to be part of activities like this where we learn new skills or enhance what we already know. Will definitely try that crispy chicken adobo flakes.

I started out with zero knowledge and experience and cooking also when I got married. I only finally learned to cook when the hired help left. And I realized, from other people’s comments, that I can actually whip up some yummy dishes! 🙂 Those dishes look yum! I’m sure I’d be tired too after preparing all those dishes!

I’m not a good cook myself even if I come from a family of good cooks. 😛 Guess I missed the genes and my siblings got it all. Haha! Just like May, I envy the take-home! Looks like I need to start investing kitchen items now. 😀
May Palacpac says
Wow Levy, the Bibimbap looks really good. Which reminds me, I need my mom to teach me how to make the adobo flakes! Anyway, grabe ha, kasama na Pinakbet sa una mong dishes to learn? heehee, when I was just starting out, Pinakbet was too complicated for me, hahaha!

I love cooking pero hindi ako yung super good at cooking, ha? Madalas lang maka-tsamba. Haha! I believe when you do cook regularly, you get better at it. And attending kitchen camps such as these are a big help, indeed! 🙂
