What can you say about La Diva’s rendition of the Philippines National Anthem?
Did you watch the Manny Pacquio vs. Miguel Cotto’s fight? If so, you must have seen the La Diva’s (Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos and Maricris Garcia) rendition of “Lupang Hinirang” (the Philippine National Anthem). Are you satisfied with it?
Well, for me it’s just plain okay, I am not that impressed yet it’s not that bad either. I just don’t know why the people responsible in choosing who would sing the National Anthem did not pick Gary Valenciano.Β For those who don’t know Gary V., he is half Puerto Rican that’s why I thought of him.
With respect with La Diva, I know that they are good singers but of course we all know that Gary V. is better and he had already proved something to the music industry. I don’t know if it’s GMA-7 who is responsible for choosing the singers who will sing in every fight of Manny, but if ever they are I don’t know what is their basis for choosing one.
I’ve heard that Ms. Lea Salonga is always volunteering herself to sing our National Anthem in Manny’s fight; I just don’t know why she is not chosen. I’d love to hear Lea sing. Manny has only 1 fight to look for, and that is his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. I hope when that time comes I will see Lea on the stage.

I also heard that issue about the traditional beat. They should have stick to the original just like what we usually do in schools.
Anyway, I do totally agree if Lea Salonga can sing in Manny’s next fight too!
hi there levy! manny is the one who chooses the singer. i did hear that lea salonga offered her services but manny chose la diva. i think he did so after he heard them sing live and in front of him.
i did like la diva’s rendition. it was okay. but so far, among all those who sang the national anthem for pacman, it’s kyla’s version which really wowed me.
I would love to hear Lea sing the national anthem…
La Diva’s version was ok… so they are from GMA 7 pala..hehehe
Hi, Levy. I hear Manny gets to choose the singer. I think La Diva did a good job, although I don’t think they stuck to the traditional march beat (remember how this was an issue with Martin’s version). I didn’t know Lea has been offering to sing. Yeah, maybe Manny’s waiting to fight Mayweather before asking her, lol.
