A public service announcement video from the U.S. Department of Commerce uploaded a scary video of how fast a fire will spread. A dry scotch pine Christmas tree lights up in seconds. Trees used indoors for the holidays account for approximately 400 fires annually, resulting in 10 deaths, 80 injuries and more than $15 million in property damage.
Now after watching that, here are tips on Preventing Christmas Tree Fires.
Check Your Holiday Lights
Inspect holiday lights every year for frayed wires, gaps in the insulation and broken or cracked sockets before putting them up. Use only lighting listed by an approved testing laboratory.
Not Overload Electrical Outlets
Do not link more than three light strands, unless the directions indicate it is safe. Make sure to periodically check the wires – they should not be warm to the touch. Do Not Leave Holiday Lights on Unattended
Use Only Nonflammable Decorations
All decorations should be nonflammable or flame-retardant and placed away from heat sources.
Never Put Wrapping Paper in a Fireplace
It can result in a very large fire, throwing off dangerous sparks and embers and may result in a chimney fire.

You know what, my other amerkana frends love to have real Christmas trees and there was one story that their spruce tree almost got fire because the needles of the spruce tree turned brown and the series lights over it blew. Geez, I just have artificial tree though…

It’s scary, no? Live trees go up so FAST! We are surrounded by Christmas Tree Farms where I live and they begin cutting the trees down in October. Many of those trees have dried out by December … perfect for fires.
Personally, we have an artificial, pre-lit tree. We go outside and decorate one of the living trees with ornaments.
