The Paleo Diet and why we try not to eat pork now
Have you seen the Movie “The Croods”? It is about a family living in a cave, this is a nice movie to watch with your kids. I remembered it because I am going to talk about the famous Paleo diet. The Croods hunt their foods to eat. I know it’s a cartoon but it amazed me that the oldest member of the family (in her golden years) was still able to do things that her grandchildren were able to do (just like being tossed from one area to another).
Have you ever wondered why our grandparents were able to last for 80 to100 years or more and now the life expectancy is just around 60 to 70 years old? There are lots of factors to consider why is that happening but let’s focus on just one for now and talk about our diet nowadays. During my visit to the Nurture Wellness Village last time, they explained to us that there are lots of products nowadays with lots of chemicals. It is like you are studying your chemistry subject over and over again while reading all the ingredients in every packaging.
Of course, I know that as much as you want to live healthy, it is so hard to do these days. It is sad to say that not everyone can afford a healthy lifestyle because unhealthy foods are a lot cheaper than the healthy ones.
For instance a pack of noodles only cost less than P15 while a bunch of salad cost P30 and above (and that is only for 1 person). Also a pack of noodles can make you feel full for a few hours compared to eating fruits.
Money is just one of the problems, you should also consider the availability of the products. The last time I went to the mall and got hungry, I have noticed that healthy choices are so few. You are lucky if you can find one nga.
While having a “me” time at National Bookstore (I love reading books there), I came across this book of Vic and Avelynn Garcia.
I was curious on what the book is all about so I read it from cover to cover, I didn’t care if others were looking while I smiled while reading it. I was hooked because the articles were hilarious. I was surprised that it does not just talk about finances but also about choosing the right foods to save a little. One thing mentioned there was removing pork from your diet.
There are lots of people I know who are not eating pork and I found it ridiculous, but when Vic and Avelynn explained why people should not eat it and how kadiri the pork is, napaisip ako ng bongga and nag-iba bigla ang tingin ko sa baboy. I will not tell what did Vic and Avelynn said in the book, nahiya naman ako at binasa ko na nga ng libre, iri reveal ko pa hahaha. But because of that, we will TRY not to eat pork from now on.
Anyway, about the Paleo Diet, what is it, you may ask? According to my research, it is an effort to eat like we used to back in the day…WAY back in the day. If a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither can you. It is advisable to eat the following – meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds. The pastas, cereals, processed foods and candies will have to go (daw!)

Of course, as I have mentioned ang hirap magpaka healthy ha, especially if ang konti ng options mo. At mas lalo namang wala sa options ko ang mag hunt ng foods hahaha. I also have a sweet tooth, I don’t think I can eliminate not eating chocolates kahit konti lang (but I now prefer dark chocolates)
That is why I have decided to take it one step at a time and that is by trying not to eat pork. We also lessen how frequent we eat processed food since September. Through this small action, I hope our health will get better.
How about you, what are the efforts do you follow to make you and your family healthy?

When I was still working in BPO, a friend introduced me to this diet. It’s easy not to eat pork. I tend to stick to chicken, fish or veggies because beef is expensive. I think that was my healthiest and fittest year. I walked a lot too because I worked in Makati and it’s better to walk than get stuck in traffic. The only exception to that diet (for me) is bacon haha! I always ordered it when I eat out. We didn’t have it at home because Papa has hypertension.
