Trip to Kawaguchiko, Mt.Fuji, Fuji-Q Highland, Oishi Park, Shimoyoshida Honcho Street
DAY1-2 story HERE
I booked a room for a night around Kawaguchiko area so that we could beat the crowd the next day to see Mt.Fuji. From Shinjuku, we took the Shinjuku Expressway Bus to Fujisan Station, the rate is Β₯2200 or around P900 each. You can check their schedule here – https://www.highwaybus.com/gp/inbound/index
I highly suggest to book your tickets early especially if you are doing a DIY itinerary and you will just stay there for a day. The fare tickets are easily sold out if you just walk in. But you have an option to take the train naman (it’s more expensive lang ata at may mga transfers). The travel time from Shinjuku to Fujisan Station was 2 hours. We arrived at Fujiyama Base (the place we’ve stayed) around 8 pm. As expected, it was too cold around the area at night because there are no tall building and it’s a rural area.
The next day, we woke up early since as mentioned, our plan was to visit the areas we want to see before the tourists arrives. But unfortunately because of the temperature outside, we can’t go out immediately. We waited for the sun to come out at around 7pm to buy some breakfast from the convenience store nearby. I was teary eyed when I saw Mt.Fuji since I am not expecting to see it that near and around the area we stayed.
Around 8 am we decided to go out and walk to Shimoyoshida Honcho Street. This is the iconic street wherein you could have Mt.Fuji as your background when you walk the street. It was about 20 minutes walk from our rented place. While walking, we noticed that although this is a rural area, the streets are also clean and we can’t see any stray cats or dogs. The neighborhood is also too quiet. Walang mga tambay na marites sa labas.
There are few tourists already when we arrived at Shimoyoshida. It’s hard to take a picture here actually because it’s a busy street and there are a lot of cars passing by. You can only take a picture if the stoplight turns red. Mt. Fuji was covered with clouds when we got there also.
After here, we were supposed to go to Chureito Pagoda, but as mentioned in my previous post my husband’s knee is aching so I decided not to push through here. Why? because you need to climb at least 400 steps to reach the top and enjoy the view and I think that would be hard for him.
So, we moved on to our next destination which is Oishi park. We rode a local train up to Kawaguchiko station then rode a bus to Oishi Park (red line). Yes, there are different kinds of buses to take you around the area, you can check it out here – https://en.kawaguchiko.net/bus-stop-en/kawaguchiko-station/
Since we don’t have return tickets to Shinjuku yet, I also purchased our tickets in advance here. Natakot ako na baka wala kami masakyan pauwi.
Here are some photos we took at Oishi Park.
We also bought some ice creams and dango in the area. Then we rushed back to Kawaguchiko station to visit the next destination – Fuji Q Highland for Naruto.
After getting our bags from Fujiyama Base, we noticed that the next schedule of the local train is after 2 hours and we won’t be able to catch our bus to Shinjuku if we will wait for it. So we decided to get a taxi na lang. For a kilometer ride, I paid Β₯1000 (mahal talaga taxi sa Japan).
We arrived at Shinjuku around 6 pm and checked in at our hotel – The Knot Tokyo Shinjuku. Stay tuned for the next kwento.
