Reasons why we LOVE Hi-5 TV Shows

My son had a delay in speech at the age of 3. As a first time mom with no one at the house to mentor me, my go to place for inquiries was the internet.

While searching for tips and suggestions on how to help kids talk, I chanced upon Hi-5.

Hi-5 is an educational show that consist of 5 energetic individuals with good singing voices. It is an edutainment TV show for kids. I started to look for their YouTube videos and let Ren watch it. When I showed it to Ren the first time, I was surprised that he liked it. I thought that this kind of show will only be a hit for girls but I was wrong.

Ren’s favorite song was the “Ready or Not”, while I on the other hand loves the “Beaver Rap”.

He was already seeing an occupational and speech therapist when he was 3 to help him deal with his behavior and speech delay. After just 3 months of going to therapy sessions and letting him watch Hi-5, I have noticed that he started talking words.

I thought that this show just entertains him while I do some household chores but I think it also helped him increase his vocabulary. And what surprised me was he got their accent too haha.

Each of the 5 characters teach different sorts of things — shapes, problem solving, music, vocabulary and movement and they do a great job of it.

He grew up watching the pioneers of Hi-5 which includes the Fil-Austalian Kathleen de Leon.

He is now 8 years old and he now has his own YouTube channel. His interests is also different compared when he was a toddler, but when I asked him if he likes to watch Hi-5 Live, I was surprised when he excitedly exclaimed Yes!

He learned a lot from watching Hi-5 . Even though he knows that the people now are not those he grew up, he knows that it’s still the same Hi-5 that he loves watching. They share the same goal from generation to generation and that is to educate children via singing and dancing which I think is the appropriate way to teach young ones.

So, moms and dads out there tomorrow is the start of Hi-5 House of Dreams show at Newport Performing Arts Theater Resorts World Manila. They will have a show here until the 21th of December.
