DIY Lapu-Lapu (Filipino Hero) Costume
Last Wednesday, my son’s school celebrated their KAPITAS festival. They asked the grade school students to wear any Filipino Heroes that they want to portray.
At first, we thought of Andres Bonifacio because he has a katipunero costume already, but my husband wanted to create something new.
We decided to let my son cosplay as Lapu-Lapu.
My husband happily designed a leotard that I bought at Baclaran for P150.00. He used permanent markers to make it look like a body tattoo.
He also created a shield and sword from a 1/4 illustration board P13.00 each from National Bookstore and oil paints. Then I used my old ethnic dress for his “bahag”. Then he wore a cycling shorts inside so that he’ll feel comfortable.
This is him with his classmates.
And the next day, we were surprised that there was an awarding for Best in Costume. Luckily, Ren got it.
Overall, we only spent less than P200.00 for this costume.

It’s really no wonder your son won. His costume is really the best one. All the others are typical Filipino costumes that you can find in the malls. Congrats! 🙂

Great job! And the top was hand drawn? Nice, wag nyo itapon kahit tapos na gamitin, sayang, haha.
