Brina Kei Maxino is a 15-year-old girl from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental with Down Syndrome. She is the daughter of Winston Abella and Alina Maxino. She will make history on 2013 by being an ambassador and spokesperson of the Philippines in the Special Olympics 2013 World Winter Games which will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea on January 26 to February 5, 2013.
She is the first child with Down Syndrome from the Philippines to be chosen and will hold the title for two years. She was chosen by Special Olympics officials from around the world including the USA, Singapore and Malaysia. She, along with the other 23 teenage ambassadors from other parts of the world, will have a talk discussing some issues affecting people with intellectual disabilities in the hopes of having a more unified community − where each person, regardless of his/her ability or disability is accepted and welcomed without prejudice.
