Shop at SM using VISA Contactless Card
A few days ago, I attended an event by Visa and SM at SM Makati. Visa announced that SM, has become the first retail group to accept contactless payments in all its establishments and affiliate stores. There will be 5,000 contactless terminals enabled across 59 SM Stores in 68 SM Supermalls in the Philippines, where cardholders can make contactless payments.
This innovation offers cardholders a faster and convenient way to pay for their purchases from SM and its affiliate stores. Consumers can simply tap their cards on a payment terminal to complete a transaction. No more dipping and swiping, or signing for payments under 2,000 pesos.
Contactless is the future of payments. And more and more companies are expected to do this soon. How about the security feature of the card? I’m sure this question is also in your mind since the card doesn’t need your signature anymore.
Here’s the thing, it’s nice that they limit the amount to only P2,000, meaning if your purchases are higher than P2,000 you still need to sign the receipt and perhaps show a valid ID.
Also, right now it could be very difficult to differentiate the values of some of the coins because they almost have the same look, size and texture (P1, P5 and P10), cashless transaction is advisable to do to avoid confusion.
I was able to try to purchase some items around SM Store to check how convenient it is to transact cashless

If you currently own a VISA card, you need to look for the Contactless IndicatorΒ Β on your credit or debit card. If there’s none you need to request a new one with the indicator from your bank.
