Try Seriously Addictive Mathematics To Make Math More Fun
When Ren was in preschool, he attended a class of this famous Math “tutoring” center. But unfortunately the program did not work for my son because the teacher wanted him to just sit down and finish the worksheet. My son is a kinesthetic and a visual learner so staying in a table and doing the same thing over and over again will not work with him. So we stopped attending classes there and I just taught it at home with what I think is right and best for him.
To be honest and not to brag, I love Math when I was still in school. I find it more interesting than words (language/reading). When I was in College, during free time I usually tutor my friends how to solve problems that for them was hard. I think I did a good job because on our next quiz most of them got a good score and some even got a perfect score.
But unfortunately, when I was observing the Math class on Ren’s previous school, I noticed that the approach in dealing with this tricky subject before is not the same now. That’s why as much as I want to take pride of my Math grades, that doesn’t apply in this generation anymore.
Change is constant and to be able to survive you need to go with the flow and embrace change. Math as I have mentioned is a tricky subject because it needs logical and critical thinking (well I feel the same thing in language).
Anyway, if you think you can’t help your kid with Math anymore or you want them to have it in non-traditional way and really love it then you should try enrolling them to SAM or Seriously Addictive Mathematics
What is Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M)?
S.A.M is a Mathematics Learning Program from Singapore, with a unique curriculum modelled after the globally popular Singapore Mathematics Program, and designed for students from 4-12 years of age.
Here are some of S.A.M’s standout features:
- They have over 30,000 pages of carefully designed self-learning worksheets with a unique step-up approach.
- They align their curriculum with the Singapore/MOE Math syllabus, unlike other Maths enrichment programs out there that are developed overseas.
- After assessing your child, S.A.M will design a customised learning program, specially tailored for your child.
- They believe in a holistic approach to maths, and focus on skills such as Critical Thinking, Heuristics, Logical Reasoning, Metacognitive Understanding, Modelling Techniques and Situational Word Problems.
- S.A.M engages students through The Classroom Experience and The Worksheet Experience — they call this the Two Learning Pillars.
The Classroom Experience
The Classroom Experience, conducted by Certified S.A.M Trainers, engages students with dialogue, probing questions, props, games and a healthy dose of encouragement. The idea is to make learning fun and memorable through an array of interactive experiences.
During this engagement time, the Trainer also takes the opportunity to accesses how the student is coping with his work, his rate of progress and his level of motivation. Qualified S.A.M Trainers understand that their role is not just to instil Mathematical knowledge in students, but to also inculcate the right learning attitude and self discipline in them, in preparation for their future.
They provide a coaching pedagogy in the Classroom Experience, where your child is encouraged to discover their solutions rather than to be told what to do. They also use Concrete examples through props and games to reinforce mathematical concepts.
The Worksheet Experience
The Worksheet Experience engages each student individually in their own designated time for study at home. This regime instills self discipline and independent learning, both necessary skills required in all manner of learning, not just Mathematics. S.A.M worksheets are designed with narrative instructions and relevant examples before each topic commences. The volume of work and level of difficulty are all carefully calibrated to ensure that learning remains challenging yet fun for every student at S.A.M.
Your child learns through practice worksheets, in class and at home. Their worksheets are designed to hone the most relevant skills and methods for your child to excel in Singapore Math. The pace of learning is specially calibrated for your child.
SAM is recommended for kids ages 4-12 years old or as long as the child needs them. At SAM, they train children to develop an attitude of self-discovery and learning at a young age. Their trainers ask leading questions rather than spoon-feed children. A habit of self-learning and discovery transcends beyond the subject of Mathematics – it will greatly benefit their learning of other subjects as well.

Is it really designed for kids up to 12 years old only? So this is not applicable to high school students?

My child is afraid of maths so much. He never take interest in maths whenever i used to teach him. I am looking for a tutor who can teach Singapore maths to my child. This S.A.M seems so much interesting, would like to know more about it.
