The New Me
I would like to share this story because I know there are many people out there who can relate to my situation. When I was still working, I was a certified shopaholic, my salary was not that high so I had no choice but to use my credit card whenever I want to buy something and I don’t have any cash left. I always wanted to know what it would feel like to be rich, those who always have something new in their drawers. They could actually do and get whatever they want : that’s my idea of people who are rich.
At first, I was still able to pay the total amount due of my card, but there came a time when I have spent to much and in the end, I was the one who suffered. I can barely even pay the minimum amount due, the interests kept on piling and piling.
It came to the point where I had to resign from my work because I could not find anybody who is willing to take care of my son. The worse part is I still have tons of bills to pay and I really don’t know what to do about it. I was always stressed at that time because I have heard stories that banks sue their customers who are not able to pay their debts. I have fear in God and I know it is wrong to run away from my responsibilities even though I have heard the nobody has been put to jail by not being able to pay their debts. This was when I started to have gray hair and eye bags because of many sleepless nights. In short, I have forgotten to take care of myself and my family.
I prayed for redemption and guidance. I have researched far and wide on how to make our remaining money grow so that we could eventually pay for all our debts. Luckily I had borrowed a book by Robert Kiyosaki entitled ” Rich, Dad, Poor Dad!” and this particular book opened my eyes on the right way to handle our money. He is right, that’s why the rich just keep getting richer because they always find ways to make their money work for them. They don’t spend on things that are liabilities. I was wrong in assuming that all the rich people do is just spend, spend and spend.
On the other hand, the poor keeps getting poorer because whenever they have a chance to get a hold of money, they try to spend it on something that they don’t really need.
So after I finished reading the book, it made me think of what might be the right business for us.
We have loaned from the bank but this time, it will not be spent for material things but instead, I will use it as a starting capital for a small business. I have bought a videoke machine and placed it in my sister-in-law’s diner. And since we are located near a school, I also added some school supplies there. This was the beginning of our new and stress-free life. I was able to pay in full all my debts on my cards. Back then, we don’t have any money in our savings account, but now I am proud to say that we have managed to save a few.
This time, I have to admit I still use my credit cards from time to time, but whenever I use my credit card, it is always within limits. By being smart in spending, I believe we should not be traumatized by credit cards or the companies that offer them.
And since our problems are slowly disappearing, I have more time to spend with my family. We seldom get sick because we are able to take care of ourselves more. A healthy body is one which is full of energy, good immunity and a great detoxification system.
I haven’t neglected pampering myself from time to time. I have found ways to take care of myself and not being able to spend a lot.
To have a shinier and more manageable hair, I use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil on my hair before I take a shower twice a week (it cost less than P100 for 150ml). The Hot-Oil from the salon costs P200-P400.
You can easily recreate the effect for instant toning by beating an egg white and then apply liberally all over your face, while avoiding the eye area. And then leave to dry. Wash off with cold water and Glutamax soap.
For a quick firm mask: Add oats and just a few drops of lemon (for oily skin) or honey (for dry skin) to an egg white; apply and then leave to dry. Wash off with cool water and Glutamax soap and see your face glow.
Since I have changed my mind set, I feel happier with myself. I am now a certified frugaholic from being a certified shopaholic.
For me, a real beauty should start from the inside. If you live a stress free life and change your attitude, you will be beautiful in the outside as well.
“Glutamax, see the results.”

It was nice to read your story because its one i can relate to, its all too easy spending money on luxurys we dont really need but just have to have. it becomes all the worse when your using borrowed money to do it too. Its great to see someone turn their situation around and thrive because i truly know how hard it can get when we are careless with money. wise words about the rich making their money work for them too!
