Which is the best supermarket?
Did you ever buy your groceries at SM, Puregold, Robinsons and ShopWise Supermarkets? Did you noticed some flaws and assets of each of these supermarkets?
Well, I did and I don’t know if you’ll agree with some of these.
In SM Supermarkets, I like the cleanliness of their stores. All items are in it’s proper places that can easily be seen and accessed. Their wet section is not smelly. They have a lot of crew that you can ask if you are looking for something. Their service is great since some of the crew are even offering you baskets when you don’t have one. Their cashier area also has a slot for senior citizens. I also like the different food stalls outside the supermarket, they have a lot of variety of foods to choose from. Although some items’ prices are a little bit higher compared to other supermarkets but in terms of service, I think it’s worth it. Most of their customers are in the middle class.
Puregold Supermarket on the other hand, sells items at a lower price. They even give discounts when you purchase in wholesale since most of their target markets are sari-sari store owners. They also offer a lot of bundled items and other promos. I just noticed some flaws in their stores. I know that most of the supermarkets especially old ones have some pest like rats and cockroaches but it is more visible in some of their stores. There are also some circumstances that because the crews are in a hurry to get items in the stock room which mostly is located on the upper part of the shelves it may accidentally fall down on some customers. The cashiers’ lines are noticeably longer compared to other stores since as I’ve said most of their customers are sari-sari store owners that’s why their carts are all full. Some branches, (especially the old ones) has a smelly wet section. I also don’t understand why they have a different section (room) for milk and some beauty products. Wherein you have to leave your other purchased items outside that room and pay separately for the items you bought there.
And lastly, my main concern about this store are the guards at the exit doors who are checking your receipts before going out. I really don’t get the idea errr logic of this kind of inspections. For me, it’s just a waste of time for both parties. You already finished falling in a long line before you reach the counter and you will fall in line again at the exit doors because the guards are checking the items you’ve purchased. I already ask one of their guards why do they need to check it and she said that it’s their protocol. Or maybe she didn’t understand either what she is doing. Anyway, if you have a lot to buy and you want it at a lower price then go to this store.
Robinson’s and Shopwise Supermaket for me has a lot in common. Their target markets are mostly in the upper class. That is why their stores has a slot for imported items. If you want to shop in a more spacious supermarket, then these stores are right for you. But some of their prices are a little bit higher compared to the first two I have mentioned above. I just shop at Shopwise when I am craving for the ensaymada they made in their own bakery shop. It is so delicious that I have to buy 2-3 packs every time I shop there.
Did I forgot to mention anything here? What are your own observations in the different supermarkets that you buy from? Where do you usually shop and why? I want to know your experiences.

If I live nearer an SM store, I would definitely do my grocery shopping there because there are lots of choices plus cheaper, too, than Robinsons supermarket.

Hi Simply, I agree Super8 is cheaper like Puregold Supermarket. But if you want to stroll around after or before having your groceries then Landmark, SM and Robinsons are the best place to be.

I shop at Robinsons before, may Mall of ASia ba dyan? hehehe, I like it there too, it’s almost similar to the big malls here in U.S. Few storeys, long and wide. I like to shop if I have coupons and there’s SALEs.

I am in-charge for our grocery and I usually go to the one nearest our place. Landmark in Trinoma seems like to have complete shelves of all I need like spices and fruits. Whereas SM North Hypermarket is so wide makes my legs so sore after all the rounds I take. But when I am talking about affordability, Super-8 which is just a walking distance from our house is the winner! Landmark is always a peso higher than the two.
