15 Mommy Lessons that I have learned
This year, my son will be celebrating his 7th birthday. I thank God for giving us this little boy.
Here are some of the lessons I have learned for being a mom for almost 7 years.
- You need to take care of yourself just like how you take care of your kids and family.
- Hug and kiss your child while they are still little, because they grow up fast and before you know it, they will not allow you to do that anymore.
- Never compare your child to other kids, everyone has unique abilities. Don’t ignore them or take them for granted.
- Building a child’s character should be on top of your priority than challenging them to excel academically.
- If you want your kids to eat healthy, set a good example by eating fruits and veggies and do exercises yourself.
- If you can learn to cook, wash clothes and dishes before you decided to have a kid then do so. Of course, you can always get a household helper to do that but getting a good one is a pain in the ass J
- Parenting is not as easy as sipping a cup of coffee. There are no instructions to follow when the baby comes out. Be open minded, have a good mentor, listen to advises but don’t forget that you are still the one to decide which is the best for your child.
- Being a mom doesn’t mean that you will forget about your husband. Make moves to stay in love because before the kid came there are just the 2 of you.
- Hang out with friends once in a while and have fun and enjoy your “me” time. Don’t feel guilty doing it. They keep you sane.
- Be grateful for your kids, don’t curse them with words. It will affect their self-worth.
- Learn to be more patient. Well, you will learn that as time goes by.
- Love unconditionally. You need to accept that kids are not born perfect. Accept their flaws and help them overcome their fears and support them as much as you can.
- Money is not everything, but you need to teach your kids the value of having one at an early age. Having money is not only beneficial for themselves but also if you have one, you will be able to help those who are in need.
- It is okay to be frustrated and get angry, but remember to choose your battles.
- Let God be in the center of your family. Read books, join ministry groups to keep your faith strong. When I am afraid of what the future holds, I just pray and let God do the rest.
