Donate Mingo instant nutritious meal to Yolanda Victims
I have read about Mingo Nutritious Meal on my Facebook News Feed. It said that this is one of the ideal relief goods that can be distributed to the people affected by the Super Typhoon Yolanda. The Mingo instant nutritious meal is made of malunggay, rice and mongo. It is a convenient food pack to be given in an evacuation center. You don’t need to cook it, and it can be prepared with just water at room temperature. It gives one a serving of rice with protein.
This is new to me, so I’ve researched more about it. I saw the Facebook page of Negrense Volunteers for Change and here are more information about Mingo:
- Mingo is made in a production plant managed by NVC (Negrense Volunteers for Change) Foundation as a social enterprise.
- Mingo was originally formulated (and still used) as complementary food for infants and toddlers in a nutrition program NVC has designed (daily feeding for 180 days). To date, NVC has engaged about 4,000 kids in this program. We have focused on this age bracket because studies show age 6 mos-3 years is most important for the physical, intellectual and social devt of kids, and no amount of improved nutrition after age 3 can fully compensate for what the child missed before that. The Dept of Science and Technology of the Philippines has greatly helped NVC in the development of Mingo.
- NVC originally tried Mingo for disaster relief for those stricken by Typhoon Pablo and since then has supplied Mingo for such needs (Typhoon Maring, Zamboanga evacuation, Bohol earthquake). In all these, NVC would partner with a volunteer organization or individuals of the same mind and spirit as NVC, and with a capability to insure that Mingo is properly distributed and used.
- Price is sold at P4.00 is sold with a margin that allows NVC to cover some admin expenses as well as a fraction that is earmarked to help it sustain its nutrition program for children of the poor.
You can buy/donate Mingo products at the Mothering Earthlings website (click HERE) or at the NVC website (click HERE)

P4.00 for a complete meal, that’s really affordable! I’ll check out their websites soon and let our church know about it, so we can include these healthy products in our boxes of donations.

Why are we not sending this out? It’s nutritious and easy to prepare. Our government should focus on producing instant meals like this, especially with what is happening to us these days. We are always in need of relief goods.

Wow. With low prices, Mingo meal will be helpful to provide nutrition to those people who have not eaten for long because of the natural disaster. This should be included in the relief packages being given away to them!
