A mother’s journey to staying fit and healthy Part1
Every year, one of my New Year’s resolution that always ends up to be just a dream and not a reality is to “Be fit and healthy”. During my younger years, I can easily lose weight for a span of 2-3 months by eating only fish and doing brisk walking. Yes I usually do a yo-yo diet and I know it’s not healthy.
Unfortunately, since I am now on my 30’s, losing weight is harder especially getting rid of the bulk tummy that I got from my pregnancy. Crash diet doesn’t work anymore. I tried slimming coffee for a while but it just works for a month or two then my weight goes back doubled.
This year, I had the hardest effort that I made so far. I joined running events and began doing Zumba exercises, but because I am not that particular and conscious on what to eat, I still didn’t lose weight. Besides, I do running once or twice a month only (lol).
I am glad that Clium asked selected bloggers to join the LOSE MORE, LIVE MORE bloggers edition challenge. I am aiming not only for the special prize that a blogger may win if he/she got the lowest drop in
BMI, bad cholesterol and sugar level but also to be sexy again and to be able to fit in my old clothes that are all sizes small and medium.
Our blood was extracted at MEDICARD CITY at Makati after a 10-12 hours fasting to check for our blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Here is my medical result.
Glucose – Normal
Cholesterol – Hi
Triglycerides- Normal
HDL (good cholesterol)- within normal range (but should be higher)
LDL (bad cholesterol) – within normal range (but should be lower)
VLDL- Normal
I was surprised that I have high Cholesterol. Yes, I know I am fat but I have not felt any problems in my system so I thought that I am still healthy. This test makes all my assumptions wrong.
According to my research, although Cholesterol is good to our body like converting sunshine to Vitamin D, a high percentage of it can cause the following:
- Atherosclerosis – narrowing of the arteries.
- Higher coronary heart disease risk – an abnormality of the arteries that supplies blood and oxygen to the heart.
- Heart attack – occurs when the supply of blood and oxygen to an area of the heart muscle is blocked, usually by a clot in a coronary artery. This causes your heart muscle to die.
- Angina – chest pain or discomfort that occurs when your heart muscle does not get enough blood.
- Other cardiovascular conditions – diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
- Stroke and mini-stroke – occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery or vein, interrupting the flow to an area of the brain. Can also occur when a blood vessel breaks. Brain cells begin to die.
OMG! those things sound scary.
Our next step is checking our BMI (Body Mass Index) by Medicard in-house nutritionist Ms. Diana Lodriguito.
Another surprising truth is I didn’t know that my waist line is already 36inch (revelation boohoo!). All along I thought that my waistline only measures around 31-32 inches. since I can wear pants that have 32 in the tag. Dr. Dianna said that the normal waist line for women is 31 and I am 5 inches beyond.
I am 5’0 feet and weighs 145.20lbs or 66kg which makes my BMI total to 28.4. According to the graph this percentage is already considered as OBESE (ouch!).
Dr. Dianna gave me some advise to lose a normal range of 1-2 lbs a month, I should do 3 hours of exercise every week which she breaks down to 30 minutes per day. She also told me to eat a balanced diet and more servings of fruits and vegetables and less sweets and fats.
After that, we had a thread mill test to check out heart rate which I just ended finishing stage 2 out of 7.
A more realistic GOAL
I don’t want to die at a young age. Because of this revelation, I realized that if I will not lose weight properly through exercise and eating healthy, I may have a chance to have a coronary heart disease due to high percentage of cholesterol level. To achieve this, I need to do the following:
1. Follow the doctors advise to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Which I can do as simple as brisk walking 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon.
2. Eat 1 serving of a variety of fruits. A serving is equivalent to 8 pcs. grapes, 1/2 Dole Banana or 1 slice of Mango. A serving of vegetables which I can measure using my palm. Be watchful of what I eat and stick to 1100 calories per day.
3. Sleep at least 8 hours per day or if not possible, try to make a powernap of at least 15 minutes every 3 hours.
4. Take Clium fiber supplement everyday.
C-Lium Fibre is a natural fat absorber that helps remove LDL “bad” cholesterol from the body while encouraging HDL “good” cholesterol. The body converts cholesterol into bile acid as part of its natural process. The psyllium husk in C-Lium Fibre has the ability to bind with bile acids which are then excreted in the stool. This results in the body converting more cholesterol into bile acids that are also absorbed by C-Lium Fibre. This continuous process helps lower blood cholesterol which in turn assists in reducing the risk of heart disease.
C-Lium Fibre is considered the “mother of all herbs” and the “Rolls Royce of fibres”. By comparison, one teaspoon of C-Lium Fibre is equivalent to 14 tablespoons of soluble fibre from oats. C-Lium Fibre swells fifty times its size when in liquid. C-Lium Fibre is 100% plant material, with no additives, no preservatives and is gluten free. C-Lium Fibre provides positive results within 7 days.
