Sapin-sapin
Can you think of any other kakainin more vibrant and colorful than sapin-sapin? If you’re a fan of coconut milk and glutinous rice, then this delicacy is for you. Sapin-sapin features three layers of flavors: plain (middle), jackfruit (bottom), and ube (top). These three flavors blend well.
Suman
You can say this is the most popular delicacy in the country. It’s always a delight when someone brings home suman from a trip! Like the other delicacy, it is made by mixing sugar coconut milk and glutinous rice. The banana or buri lead wrapping adds even more flavor. You may eat this as it is or pair it with mangoes like in the restaurants.
Bibingka
You can find this everywhere, but it is more common around the churches during ‘Simbang Gabi’ or Christmas season. Best to eat this with margarine, cheese on top, and butter. Biko
Like other delicacies such as Sapin-sapin and Kakanin, Biko is sold in bilaos are sold in almost every market in the country. Are you familiar with latik? It is the special sauce for Biko made that’s sweet and crunchy, and made of caramelized sugar and milk. Try it with tea!
Puto
Any Filipino delicacy list wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favoritePuto. This round kakanin-like cupcake is made of coconut milk mixed with rice flour, and sugar. If that’s not enough to make your mouth water, imagine them being steamed to perfection and topped with slices cheese. The best places to get Puto are Marikina and Calasiao.
Kutsinta
For sure, that place where you bought Puto also sells Kutsinta. This is probably among the simplest delicacy in the country, as it is easy to find at malls or markets. Another kakanin cupcake made by mixing lye water, sugar, annatto powder, and flour. Served with grated coconut.
Pichi-pichi
By now you’re probably noticing Filipinos love naming delicacies with repeated words, right? Sounds cute that way! This next featured kakanin is made of grated cassava, sugar and comes in yellow color and coated with grated coconut. Pichi-pichi is worth every penny and kind of addicting as it is light in the stomach.
Cassava Cake
